Baby Biradar
Arts Education | 15-11-2017 - 14-05-2019 | Completed

Baby Biradar is the Arts Teacher at the Government High School, Muchalamba, Bidar District. Having been exposed to various forms of visual arts, she now wants to use her skills to aid in the learning process of her students. Her experience in participating in the Kali Kalisu training programme last year has been a trigger for this current project.

Baby speculates that pursuing the mathematical as well as the artistic aspects of any problem is both productive and fun, leading to new interdisciplinary thinking. Using paper folding craft and various techniques of origami Baby will enable eight grade students to play with their geometry curriculum, hoping to inspire students to enter the intricacies of mathematical problems through the tactile methods of paper folding. She perceives several advantages of this method of teaching. By building three-dimensional models of geometrical designs students will be exposed to understanding complex concepts in a tangible manner. Also, if the problems become difficult to solve, they can switch to illustrating the difficulty visually through the craft form; and if the paper folded object is difficult to make, they can fall back on basic mathematics to understand it.

The outcome will be a performance and a publication. The Grantee's deliverables to IFA with the Final Report will include photographs from the workshops, audio video recording of the performance and the publication.

This description is part of the institutional records created by IFA at the onset of the grant. The project may have changed in due course as reflected in the deliverables from the Grantee.
